Who can be a Lion?

Membership is open to men and women of legal majority and good reputation, and is by invitation only. Highway Lions Club membership includes Married couples and their adult children, dating couples, unaccompanied married persons and singles. Meetings more often than not have the children of members in attendance. We have two members that attend meetings with their seeing eye companion dogs and another who attends in a wheelchair. The opportunity to serve is available to everyone.

How do I become a Lion ?

Since membership is by invitation only it necessitates getting to know a Lion or a Lions club.  Any Lions Club will be happy to have you attend a meeting and begin what we  hope will be a long association with Lions.  After several meetings, all the questions you may have regarding membership should be answered to your satisfaction.  You will then be asked to submit an application to the club of your choice and following acceptance by its Board Of Directors be inducted into Lionism.

How do I find a Lions Club in my area ?

Please contact any member of Highway Lions Club.  It will be our pleasure to introduce you to Lions at one of our meetings or to help you find a Lions Club in your neighborhood and arrange a meeting with its membership.  A Lions Club locator can be found at www.lionsclubs.org , How to become a member.

What costs are associated with being a Lion

Lions Club dues are among the lowest for service organizations.  Membership costs vary from Lions Club to Lions Club.  100% of money made from the public must be returned to the public.  It is therefore incumbent on individual clubs to assume the administrative burden in support of it's activities.  This is done through a fee added by the club to the annual dues established by Lions International.

How often do Lions Clubs meet ?

Clubs meet at least twice a month and elect officers annually.  A club Board of Directors meeting is also held monthly to determine the course of club business. If a member chooses there is ample opportunity to attend various fund raising functions and associated affairs throughout the year.

How much time will I be Expected to give to Lions ?

I can only speak to time requirements for Highway Lions.  We have none.  It is expected that a member will attend as many regularly scheduled meetings as possible.  It certainly is our goal to have every member achieve 100% attendance for these meetings, but since that may be impossible, make-ups can be attained working on our projects, attending training sessions or even by visitations to fellow Lions Clubs.  At no time will you have to give more time than you can afford.
